The 30th international annual Congress of the World Muscle Society will take place at the Austria Center in Vienna, Austria.  

Vienna, known in German as Wien, is Austria's capital city and sits at the heart of Europe. Known as the City of Music, Vienna has been a city of science, culture and music for centuries.  

Vienna boasts a modern and efficient transport network, combining an underground railway (U-Bahn), with overground trains, trams and buses.

We recommend you check the guide if you have any questions as there's a good chance it contains the answers. 

Accessibility

The Vienna Center is fully wheelchair accessible and provides full accessibility for disabled people. The city itself is committed to being as accessible as possible and offers this guide for people to help people with physical or sensory disabilities to plan their trip. Electricity supply/voltage

For Austria there are two associated plug types, types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Austria operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

Emergency numbers

112 is the universal emergency number which will connect you to police, fire and ambulance services. This number can even be called from a mobile phone without credit or a SIM card.

Insurance

Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended to clear all travel and medical insurance issues prior to coming to Vienna. Neither the Congress Secretariat nor the Organising Committee will take any responsibility for any participant of the Congress failing to insure themselves.

Sales tax

All visitors not resident in the EU are entitled to a refund of Austrian value-added tax (VAT), which is included in the price. VAT on most goods is 20%. More detailed information is available here

Tipping

Tipping habits and amounts are pretty much the same in Vienna as elsewhere in major European cities. When tipping serving staff, Austrians normally add 5% to 15% to the bill so it’s rounded up to a convenient number.

In cafés, bars and restaurants, you pay the tip in the initial amount you hand over. So don’t pay the bill and then leave behind some change on the table or give back a note. When you hand over your money, state the amount you’re paying. So when the waiter says, “six euro fifty”, you hand them a 10 Euro note and say, “eight”.
